Our Influence

While we continue to create powerful digital content for teachers and demonstrate that it can be developed at reasonable costs and teachers actually consume it, we also strive to influence individuals and organisations.

Influencing Individuals

Author Fellowship Program

In March 2017 we launched the first cohort of the Author Fellowship Programme with 14 bright academicians and pedagogues. This is a 2-year fellowship where we are building capacity of 14 fellows to be experts in digital content writing for teachers.

What is it?

In order to unleash this potential of digital learning for teachers in India, we must first, become a bridge between teachers and educators who want to work for teachers at large. We would do this by creating:

  • a network of educators who wish to impact teacher education

  • a space where they would develop authoring skills for teachers’ professional development using a constructivist approach

  • opportunities to receive support and insights into writing for a technology interface (mobile app)

  • an ecosystem for enabling several passionate researchers, teacher educators and pedagogues to receive these learning opportunities and build capacity, in the years to come.

This bridge, is what we call the Author Fellowship Programme. Through this, we envision:

‘Every Teacher to learn and grow anytime, anywhere at zero cost.’

In the next 3 years, TheTeacherApp aspires to influence over 100 individuals to create great content for teachers.

Influencing Organisations

Dream Team- an idea to unlock open source digital learning experiences for teachers

Dream team is a unique collaborative effort aiming to create an ecosystem for creating great digital learning experiences for teachers. It aims to bring together organizations, which have reputation and rigorous academic intent, to build a community of practice towards learning, innovating and attempting to create digital learning experiences for teachers.

Organizations participating in the dream team stand a chance to operate in an action research mode, to learn and experiment (with an option to fail), and take a solid crack at digitizing learning experiences for teachers. As a result, be in a position in couple of years to set out a digital strategy for themselves with hands-on knowledge of how it works. And short-term result of this would also be content for teachers which is co-owned by all members, made to run on any open-source platform.

TheTeacherApp in collaboration with National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) plans to attempt the same. NCTE and Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) are willing to offer full support, recognition and scale of National Teacher Platform to help organizations in the Dream Team to seriously consider building a digital content strategy for teachers.

To form the first cohort and crystalize the thinking, we are speaking with the following organizations: Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Jodo Gyan, Navnirmati, OELP, Valley School, Aurobindo Society, Eklavya, Bodh Shiksha Samiti, Heritage School, Humana, Muktangan, Azim Premji University, National Council Of Educational Research And Training (NCERT), National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA), India School Leadership Institute, 3.2.1 Education Foundation.

We aim to begin the first cohort with 10 organization (from the above list) to learn. Each cohort of the Dream Team would work for 2 years. During these 2 years, the organization would participate in an action research project. Aim of the project would be to develop 8-10 digital learning experiences (courses) for teachers.

Digitising D.El.Ed. Curriculum

We partnered with MHRD and NCTE in December 2016 to accelerate their digitisation effort. As part of the partnership we have begun roll out of our first TeacherApp Inside Project which would be a yearlong intervention with NCTE. As part of the intervention, TheTeacherApp would support NCTE to:

  • Digitize a 2-year teacher training course (D.El. Ed) and

  • Build a Learning Management System (LMS) based on OpenEdx
